New Hijri Year marked in Sarajevo

New Hijri Year Marked faktor.baOn the occasion of the New 1437th Hijri Year, academy titled “Putevima Hidžre” was held last night in the Kuwaiti Mosque at Cengic Vila in Sarajevo.

The New 1437th Hijri Year started with the sunset last night. Within the official program in the Kuwaiti Mosque, adequate lectures were held accompanied by the performance of the choir of the Majlis of Islamic Community, after which fireworks were organized in front of the mosque.

Central ceremony on the occasion of the New Hijri Year will be held today in the Gazi Husrev-Bey’s Mosque, after noon prayer. The program will be performed by the choir of the Gazi Husrev-Bey’s Madrasah, and appropriate lecture will be held by Prof. Mustafa ef. Spahic. Central ceremony will be attended by the Supreme Head of Islamic Community in B&H Reis-ul-Ulema Husein ef. Kavazovic.

First Muharram is the first day of Hijri year. Word “hijrat” means migration in Arabic, and “hijratun-nebijji” refers to the migration of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina in year 622 according to the Prophet Isa.

Hijra of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina is one the most significant events in the history of Islam. It represents one of the most significant dates in the overall history of Muslims, and the mankind as well, thereby Muslims celebrate it with adequate program, a mawlid, and educational lectures on historical and political importance of Hijra.
