An integral part of the regular tourist offers of the Sarajevo area for years has been the cave of Orlovača near Pale, which is visited annually by 1.500-2.000 people.
The expert associate for the protection of the cultural-historical and natural heritage in the Cultural Center of Pale Mladen Samardžić thinks that the number of visitors could be higher, given the size and beauty of Orlovača.
“So far, around 3.500 meters of the cave hall have been explored, and for visitors there is around 560 meters that is able to be explored, with paths and lighting’’, said Samardžić to Srna.
He recalled that last year with the donation from the government of Italy, the inside of the cave was maintained, as well as the pathway.
Samardžić hopes that in the future more funds would be provided.
According to him, the rest of the cave that remains unexplored, around 10 KM, is the subject of interest for research.
Recalling that Orlovača is one of the biggest and most beautiful caves in BIH, he added that research lasts throughout the year.
The most number of visitors here is during school excursions, but tours are available every day with a tour guide.
“There is no strictly defined time to visit the cave, but it is important to call earlier’’, explained Samardžić.
More information can be found on the website www.orlovaca.com.
The price for a group visit is 2 KM for students and 3 KM for adults, while individual visits cost 4 KM.
Highlighting the good cooperation with tourist organizations and agencies, Samardžić assessed that the number of visitors that go to Jahorina during the winter should have a visit to the cave as part of the program.
Orlovača cave is only 15 KM from Sarajevo and is found in Sumbulovac, near the main road for Sokolac. The entrance to the cave is less than 1 KM from the road.
