Preparation of nomination file to make BiH medieval tombstones (stećci) the UNESCO World Heritage site is in the final stage and it should be over by late June, said today on the Jahorina Mountain BiH Minister of Civil Affairs Sredoje Nović.

After a meeting with ministers of culture of BiH, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro, he announced that the nomination file will be presented to expert teams of all four countries by 15 September and every country will manage their own necropoleis.

Nović added that the final file must be presented to UNESCO by the end of January 2014.

He noted that stećci should be protected and presented to the world as a unique cultural heritage, since no other country has them and added that all four countries supported this project.

Minister of Culture of Montenegro Branislav Mićunović said that this project is important for the economy and cultural tourism.

Minister of Culture of Serbia Branislav Petković said that this project will enhance the cooperation among the countries of the region.

Out of 30 nominated necropoleis, 22 are from BiH, 2 from Croatia, 3 from Serbia and 3 from Montenegro.
