Start of construction work on the thermo-electric plant TE “Stanari” near Doboj will be marked by a symbolic laying of a stone on 8 May, announced the Technical Director of “Stanari” Savo Mirković for SRNA.

Mirković said that the Chinese Corporation “Dongfang Elektrik” is the main contractor of works for the construction of the thermo-electric plant with a capacity of 300 megawatts. Annual production is planned to be 2.000 gigawatt-hours and annual expenditure of oil to be around 2.3 million tons.

“With this Chinese company, we have signed an agreement on construction of the plant “Stanari” under the system “Keys in Hand”, and the first functional probe and plant maintenance is expected to be carried out at the end of 2015. The beginning of production of electrical energy should begin by 2016’’, said Mirković.

The total investment is around 550 million euros. Local firms will be engaged and will provided around 90 percent of the construction work, for which there is a need for 1.200 workers. Around 800 will be local, and around 300 will be Chinese workers.

According to estimates from the EFT Group, in TE “Stanari” there will be a total of 1.000 permanently employed workers, from which there will be around 250 in the thermal plants and around 600 in the mines, while work on repairs in the plant and in the mine will have around 200 workers.

“By putting this into operation, TE “Stanari” will significantly increase revenues in the budget of the RS through taxes, contributions, rents and concession reimbursements’’, added Mirković.

In the area there are around 150 million tons of coal without sulfur that meets EU environmental standards, as well as larger supplies of silica sand and kaolin, and raw materials required in the construction, glass and metal industry.
