Slovenia strongly advocated and now advocates for BiH to reach the point on its path towards the European Union where it can start negotiations, said the President of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, who is visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina on February 8.

“The next European Commission report will arrive in March. It is very important that the Commission can make it clear to the member states in that report that Bosnia and Herzegovina adequately responds to the recommendations of the European Commission,” Pirc Musar pointed out in an interview with Dnevni Avaz.

She said that she believes that BiH can succeed on that path.

“Slovenia would not be making all these efforts and I would not be here at this time and at this moment if we were not convinced that Bosnia and Herzegovina can do it. And thereby send a message not only to the region but to the whole of Europe that now, in this era of increasing political uncertainty, we all need stability more than ever. And there is no stability in Europe without an integrated Europe and therefore a Europe in which every country that wants it has a European perspective,” concluded Pirc Musar.

During her visit to Sarajevo, the President of Slovenia will meet with members of the BiH Presidency and visit members of the 48th contingent of the Slovenian Army who work as part of the EUFOR “Althea” military mission and the NATO headquarters in Sarajevo.

The visit of the Slovenian president is a continuation of the diplomatic offensive in our country. At the end of last week, US Assistant Secretary of State James O’Brien and NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana were in Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with members of the North Atlantic Council. Earlier, among others, were the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the Prime Ministers of the Netherlands and Croatia, Mark Rutte and Andrej Plenković.
