President of RS: There’s no Consensus for a Referendum about the Independence of RS

SNSD Party had left the question of an independence referendum for later, in order to avoid creating a divided society in the Republika Srpska, one of the two entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Milorad Dodik, the president of that party, confirmed after a two-day counseling session in Bijeljina.

He explained that the idea about holding a referendum about the status of RS in 2018 will be considered later, if extreme conditions arise.

“As a responsible political party, which respects international conditions and the lack of a consensus in RS, since it’s impossible to create a consensus with the parties of the Alliance for Change, SNSD believes that question ought to considered later,” Dodik said

SNSD will, he says, if some extreme circumstances arise next year, try to build a consensus for that question.

He said that the party had a responsibility to consider the decision of the Parliament from the counseling session, which said that at the end of the year, the conditions for holding a referendum about the independence of RS must be considered.

“It’s impossible to build consensus with SDS, which doesn’t want that, which doesn’t want an independent RS. Same with PDP and Cavic. They’re more than ready to work against the independence of RS by attacking an idea that comes from the other side,” Dodik said.

He repeated that the goal of SNSD is to return BiH to the original Dayton agreement and that “BiH as Dayton originally envisioned it can survive.”
