Proposal accepted: No more Bet Shops on Baščaršija!

Bet Shops CLosing balkanincoming, comAt yesterday’s session of the Municipal Council Stari Grad, the proposal by Our Party (Naša Stranka) to disable the opening of bet shops within the protected area of Baščaršija through the Decision which regulates the rental of business spaces was accepted.

“We are glad that the mayor, as well as the majority of councilors, recognized the positive intention underlying our initiative and the fact that it is in favor of the local community. Baščaršija is probably the most significant symbol of Sarajevo and it is of exceptional importance to protect it from inappropriate activities, said Vedran Grebo, councilor of Naša Stranka in Stari Grad.

Baščaršija and Štrosmajerova were included in the same price zone, but also in the same zone when it comes to defining business activities. Our argument was that those two streets are structurally different and that they can remain in the same price zone, but that they should be differentiated in terms of business activities, Naša stranka stated.

“A time frame of several months will be given for closing all existing bet shops on Baščaršija. To avoid confusion, it is impossible to close the mentioned objects in a single day, but it can realistically be expected that by summer there will be no single bet shop within the protected cultural area of Baščaršija,” Grebo said.
