The President of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev, said today after a meeting with members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo that for his country, the security and stability of BiH is a matter of strategic importance for the stability and prosperity of the entire region.
“That is why Bulgaria remains firmly engaged in the EUFOR Althea Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina because we are convinced that it is of key importance for security. Today we also discussed the establishment of additional cooperation between our higher military schools and academies, and I would also welcome constructive relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and NATO,” said Radev.
He stressed that BiH must implement all necessary reforms for membership in the European Union and that they remain the basic criteria when it comes to supporting Bulgaria’s European path of our country.
Radev reminded that BiH and Bulgaria are connected by deep cultural and historical ties and that our current relations remain an example of sincere friendship.
He added that there is a common understanding that dialogue at the highest level is necessary for the development of relations in all other areas of mutual interest.
Radev explained that at the meeting they discussed the challenges that lie ahead, such as security, conditions for economic development, and especially the demographic challenges caused by the emigration of young people.
He said that the economic cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Bulgaria has been on an upward trajectory for years, but it still has great unused potential, and that is why he proposed signing a memorandum on mutual protection of investments.
“Unfortunately, my visit coincided with the tragic floods, and on my own behalf and on behalf of the Bulgarian people, I want to express my deepest condolences to the families of the victims. After the initial aid, Bulgaria is still at BiH’s disposal for damage repair in the affected areas,” emphasized Radev, according to Federalna.
