Ranka Damjanovic from BiH is breaking down Prejudices about Women

A twenty-three-year-old girl from Prijedor, Ranka Damjanovic, has been driving a car for a long time, and she started driving a 7.5-tons weighing truck 3 months ago.

According to her, she is breaking the prejudices about women drivers in this way, and on the other hand, she enjoys trucks. She is planning to pass the exam for the category for a truck with a trailer and to become an instructor. She is also dreaming about motorcycles, however, her parents are not letting her drive them. Still, she will not give up on her desire, and she said that she will start saving money for a motorcycle as soon as she gets her first job.

Instead of dolls, she used to play with trucks and engines as a little girl. This young girl from Prijedor admits that she loved vehicles since her childhood, and therefore differed from her peers.

She said that she has a special feeling when sitting in a truck.

“Everything is more beautiful in the truck cabin, it is a lot more spacious. It is a special feeling for me. I’m not too tall, so I have to move the seat all the way to the end in order to get to the steering wheel,” said Ranka.

Many people know about her passion for trucks, so they were not surprised when she realized what she wanted for a long period of time. Some people told her that it was not a “girl thing”, but Ranka never paid attention to those comments. She fulfilled her wish and, as she says, no one is happier than her.

Her father and uncle are also driving a truck, and Ranka can often be seen driving a family truck on the streets of Prijedor.

“The most important thing for me now is to graduate from university, and I am planning to stay here, but I am not running away from driving large trucks all over Europe. However, I have to see what is going to happen with my employment first, and I am thinking of becoming an instructor as well. The future is in front of me and so far I achieved everything I wanted, so I hope it will be like that in the upcoming years as well. It is important for me to have the support of my parents in everything, and my dad is never afraid for me when I sit in the truck, although some men look at me in disbelief,” said Ranka, who is going through life with great optimism and faith that all of her dreams and hopes will come true.
