On Saturday night, the Church of St. Elijah in Zenica was the most special place in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)from where members of all religions prayed for peace in the world as part of the 14th interreligious prayer and cultural manifestation “Spirit of Assisi”.

The interreligious prayer-cultural manifestation “Spirit of Assisi” is inspired by the spirit of peace and understanding and has deep roots in history.

The “Spirit of Assisi” originates from the town of the same name in Italy, where Francis of Assisi more than eight centuries ago inspired people of different religions to pray together for peace and harmony.

“That’s why, through this year’s event, we are following this age-old tradition. Our goal is to send messages of hope, faith, love and goodness under the slogan ‘Ten from One.’ This motto reminds us of God’s ten commandments, which are universal principles for life, regardless of our religious differences,” said the Committee for Interreligious Cooperation in Zenica.

They point out that together they can learn how to endure, not losing hope and believing that everything will be fine in the end.

“May this year’s ‘Spirit of Assisi’ release in all of us the power of love and acceptance. This year, we are proud to award the ‘Zenica Charter of Peace’ to the Embassy of Romania in BiH, which showed exceptional support for the work of our Committee for Interreligious Cooperation in Zenica. Their commitment and the contribution to the spread of messages of harmony and acceptance are priceless”, said the Committee for Interreligious Cooperation Zenica and they added that this award is also a tribute to all religious communities and churches that have been involved in preserving the spirit of Assisi and promoting inter-religious cooperation in our city.

The director of the Zenica Catholic School Center, Vlatko Rosic, said that the prayers from Zenica may not be heard by world powers, but he is convinced that God will.

“We are here to celebrate the Spirit of Assisi, in this turbulent time, by praying for peace in our hearts, families, city, homeland and the whole world. We hope that our voice, which may not be heard by the world powers, will be heard by God. May he hear our cries for peace and prosperity that we cultivate and want to pass on to new generations,” said Rosic, Klix.ba reports.
