Sarajevo Postman kept the Shipment during the War to deliver it in Peace

postOne postman kept shipments throughout the war to deliver them after the end of the war. Believe it or not – that’s exactly what he did.

The working atmosphere. A lot of work, and a little time. Shipments must be delivered to every address. Always on time and in the hands of the right people. This was also the case during the war in 1992.

Drenko Peleksic is working at DHL for 30 years. He recalls that he and his brother took over the shipment that came with last commercial flight from Slovenia. Then the war started…

“This was literally the last flight that landed in Sarajevo. We took shipment and dragged it to my apartment. We organized it. Among other things, there were the two labor booklets as well,” said Drenko Peleksic.

Despite the barricades, Drenko managed to divide part of shipment. Booklets remained in the apartment until the end of the war. The whole shipment was finally delivered in 1996.

“A man called me. The booklets belonged to two people from Maglaj. The man called and said: “Is this DHL? I am /name and surname/ … booklet was sent to me before the war.” I took it and read it. He says that it is his. He asked me whether there was another one, and I said yes,” said Drenko.

“Drenko is one of the four of us who started in 1996. It’s not unusual for someone in the middle of the war to think about DHL, customers and keep shipments in his apartment,” said Edin Emso, manager of DHL.

His colleagues appreciate him a lot. This, they said, is just like him…

“I know him as a responsible person, so I have a reason to believe that this is a consequence of his character and his personality,” said Selma Eminovic.

And Drenko is very modest. Although he told his unusual story even before several hundred managers in Dubai, he says that he would do this again, if he knows it would mean to someone.
