United Kingdom (UK) photographer Paul Lowe was found dead a few days ago, and new information reveals that his 19-year-old son is suspected of fatally stabbing him.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) deputies were dispatched to the area around Mt. Baldy Road, near Stoddard Canyon Falls, where they discovered a man with “upper torso trauma” injuries.
Friends identified the victim as 61-year-old Paul Lowe, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators soon learned that another man had been seen fleeing the area at high speed and later crashed a vehicle.
Authorities initially detained the 19-year-old, now identified as Emir Lowe, according to LASD records, before arresting him on suspicion of murder.
The LASD medical examiner reported that the cause of death was a stab wound to the neck.
Emir Lowe was scheduled to appear at the West Covina courthouse on Tuesday.
Friends and colleagues in shock
Lowe was a UK photojournalist who covered major events like the fall of the Berlin Wall, the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
His photography documented the everyday life and struggle for survival of Sarajevo’s residents during the siege.
Over the years, many of his photos from the besieged city have been exhibited worldwide.
Lara Jo Regan, a colleague of Lowe, said he had told her he was in California to address some family matters. They had planned to meet, but he didn’t respond for a few days, and she later saw the news of his death.
“I was beside myself with shock. I’m still a bit stunned,” she added.
Elton Koritari, a fellow artist and curator, wrote on Instagram that it had been a privilege to work with Lowe and mentioned his recent exhibition in Tirana.
He emphasized the responsibility to carry on with the project Siege of Sarajevo, honoring Lowe’s work as a dedicated witness to history, Klix.ba writes.
