Two people were injured today in a shooting near a mosque in the Swedish city of Orebro, and the case is currently being investigated as an attempted murder.

Both people are currently in hospital, and the extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

SVT News reports that, according to eyewitnesses, one of the victims was leaving the mosque when he was shot.

A large police operation is underway at the scene of the shooting, with several rescue units, police officers and seven ambulances.

A preliminary investigation into the attempted murder has also begun, and citizens are being asked to avoid the area.

The police suspect that the shooting is related to gang activity, according to information obtained by the Swedish newspaper “Aftonbladet”.

They also believe that it was an “isolated incident” that was not directly aimed at the mosque.

The Islamic Community of Bosniaks in Sweden, more precisely the Orebro Jamaat, also issued a statement, stating that the incident occurred at the Vivalla mosque, not theirs.

“Our center’s premises will be closed as a precaution until we receive more information about the event and risk assessments,” they wrote in the announcement.
