Once a Hobby, Now a Successful Business: Dževad’s Goat Farm is Proof That You Can Succeed

Goat Farm novovrijeme.baAlthough the production of goat’s milk represents only about three percent of the total milk production in the world, the last twenty years have demonstrated an increase in the popularization of goat breeding, and therefore an increase in the production of this valuable product.

BH’s geography is ideal for the conditions of breeding these animals, which is why many people are beginning to turn to goat milk in BH – and its various processed products – as a healthier alternative to cow’s milk.

One such example is the Goat farm “Capris-goat Breeding and Cheese Making” in Turšić, twenty kilometers from Zavidovići, which has quickly grown into a successful business.

Exactly 10 years ago, Dževad Tursić and his wife, Nura, settled in a cottage, and purchased a few goats as a family hobby. Over the years, Dževad and his family began developing their hobby. Today, their real estate covers an area of about five hectares of land.

“It all started as a hobby of my father’s; with five goats, he kept for his needs. I have lived abroad, and upon return, we began to seriously deal with this matter. Today, we have a herd of 150 goats, and despite all the problems we encounter in everyday business, I can say we are satisfied”, says Amir Tursić for eKapija.ba, pointing out that the business involves all the family members.

“We all have our daily tasks. My wife, Isabella, is in charge of the cheese production. In the facility equipped with modern machines, several types of cheese are produced: Travnik cheese, smoked cheese, fresh cheese, trappist cheese, and kačkavalj. The price range of the cheese ranges from 12 to 25 BAM per kilogram.” Dževad notes that the price of his cheese is determined by the amount of milk (2 BAM/liter) expended in the production of one kilogram of cheese.
