Taiwan was hit by the strongest earthquake in the last 25 years with a magnitude of 7.4 on the Richter scale. So far, the death of four people has been confirmed, while 57 have been injured.

For now, an undetermined number of people were trapped after the buildings collapsed.

Taiwan’s Center for Science and Technology (CST) said people and vehicles were trapped in the Dachingshui Tunnel.

Railway lines were also damaged, and schools and workplaces were closed in large parts of the city. Numerous landslides were triggered and road connections were interrupted.

The United States Geological Survey said the epicenter of the earthquake was 18 km south of the Taiwanese city of Hualien at a depth of 34.8 km.

The Philippine Seismological Agency issued a tsunami warning for coastal areas fronting the Pacific Ocean, saying they were expected to experience “high tsunami waves,” but later lifted the warning.

After the 7.4-magnitude earthquake, several more earthquakes followed, the strongest of which was the 6.4-magnitude one, Klix.ba reports
