mediteran-film-festival-u-sirokom-brijeguAlthough in terms of production there is no difference from the previous years, this edition of 14th International Mediterranean Film Festival (MFF) is the best so far from the program view, announced at a news conference in Široki Brijeg, the director of the festival Tomislav Topić .

He said that in the competition part of the program will be screened 22 documentary films from 10 countries, and out of competition program will be screened two films, winner of Pula “The defense and protection” by Bob Jelčić and the film”Cowboys” by Tomislav Mršić, that on 31st August will officially close the festival.

Topić explained that the first two days of the festival, which started yesterday, traditionally means a kind of cinematic warming and this year is dedicated to one of the most significant artists of the twentieth century, Federico Fellini.

In the collaboration with the Italian Embassy in B&H, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of his death, the festival will present a retrospective of the great Federico Fellini. So we will have a chance to see some of the Fellini films with which he achieved the status of a well-known author. In total will be shown seven selected films, explained Topić.

He added that the third day of the festival is dedicated to displaying works by local authors, as well as the official program of the competition and from 260 films received, the selector Damir Čučić chose 22 films.

The international jury will choose the best film – more than 30 minutes and the best short film – up to 30 minutes. For the third prize will decide the audience.

The festival producer Robert Bubalo at a press conference said that despite continual economic crisis, the festival in Siroki Brijeg finds ways to develop each year and has become one of the most important film events in B&H.

He highlighted the role of the festival in the creation and development of cinema in Herzegovina, and Topić added that 20 years ago did not exist a trace of film making in Herzegovina.

We are extremely proud to launch the film making in Herzegovina, said Topić.

Vanja Gavran, the head of the office for cooperative communication HT ERONET, which is the general sponsor of the festival, said that is a great honor to sponsor this event, and that the company HT Eronet gives a special attention to the development of film and cinema in B&H.

“We hope that even next year we will continue to work with this festival”, said Gavran.

At the press conference spoke Zednko Jurilj, who presented his documentary film “Pacijent” and Lucy Eagleson, member of the Sports Department of NBC, and Midge Costin, editor tons of the Hollywood movies, who in the framework of this festival runs an educational workshop.
