The federal phytosanitary inspection at the Domaljevac-Šamac border crossing prohibited the import of a shipment of wooden pallets for the transport of mineral fertilizer originating from Italy.

During the regular inspection, it was determined that the shipment does not meet the prescribed phytosanitary conditions for import, because it was not treated and marked in accordance with the applicable legal regulations, it was stated on the official website of the Federal Phytosanitary Inspection.

“In accordance with the Law on the Protection of Plant Health and the Rulebook on Phytosanitary Requirements for Wooden Packaging Material in International Traffic, the import of a controlled shipment of a total quantity of 14 wooden pallets is prohibited, and it has been ordered to return it to the sender, i.e. to destroy it in the prescribed manner in the event that it is returned is not possible,” they added in the statement.

The rulebook on phytosanitary requirements for wooden packaging material in international traffic stipulates that wooden packaging material produced from oak wood must be subjected to treatment, i.e. to the prescribed temperature for a certain minimum period in order to destroy harmful organisms.

The inspection was carried out on Thursday, May 11.
