The Netherlands Compensation Commission Potocari is no longer processing Requests

As of yesterday, June 15th, 2023, the Netherlands Compensation Commission Potocari (NCCP) will no longer process new requests for compensation. Requests received by the commission until June 15th, 2023 will be evaluated according to the procedure.

The offices in Sarajevo and The Hague will remain open to review requests and answer questions about requests submitted before June 15th, 2023. Requests for compensation submitted on or after June 15th will not be processed by the Commission.

On June 15th, 2021, the NCCP began the implementation of the Srebrenica civil law settlement regarding compensation for damages. The compensation scheme applies only to the relatives of the murdered men who were in the United Nations (UN) base in Potocari on July 13th, 1995.

The base means only the UN base, a former battery factory. Two years after its opening, the committee received about 8,000 requests. These requests refer to more than 2.500 victims. Estimates are based on the fact that a maximum of 500 men were in the UN base on July 13th, 1995.

“These figures show that our efforts to get in touch with as many relatives of the Srebrenica victims as possible have borne fruit. The Srebrenica civil law settlement is known to the general public in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and other countries,” the NCCP announced.
