The only Mayor in B&H who does not take his Salary!

memagicDjemal Memagic, Mayor of Olovo, a small town which is located between Sarajevo and Tuzla, did not take any salary, wages, nor meal compensation for more than 3 years.

He invites the youth not to criticize, but to act, because “criticism is not a salvation, but participation on the elections and private business, which is not so frequent in B&H.

– You promised 3 years ago, when applying as candidate for the place, that if you come to that position, you will work for free. Many have characterized that as a campaign trick. However, you fulfilled your promise. Where is your income going?

It is all meant for schoolchildren and students of Municipality Olovo, who have evidence that they are studying or attending the high school. I believe that many people thought that it was a trick, but it was my real intention.

– What funds are these and to who are you giving the scholarships?

We always announce an open competition at the end of the school year. Schoolchildren and students bring the proof. These are scholarships without any acquaintances, but something that Olovo needs, for students who are excellent and very good as well as some students who do not have money for education.

– How did students and citizens of Olovo reacted on your gesture?

I believe that it is accepted in the way it should be. Of course there are those who are saying ‘he takes that on the other place,’ however, I do not listen to that and I think that it is very well accepted.
