The ceremonial signing of the contract yesterday officially marked the start of work on the construction of the University Library in Sarajevo, which was financed by a grant from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Development Fund.

The signatories of the contract are the University of Sarajevo and the consortium Al-Fahd Company Trading Industry and Contracting and ANS DRIVE Sarajevo, as the chosen contractor for the project of building and equipping the University Library.

On behalf of the University of Sarajevo, the Rector of the University of Sarajevo Rifat Škrijelj and Vice-Rector for Finance Tarik Zaimović signed the contract and on behalf of the contractors, the Chief Executive Officer for Construction at Al Fahd Company Waseem Abdullah Al Abaiki and the General Manager of ANS Drive Asmir Dževlan were the signatories.

The Rector of the University of Sarajevo, Rifat Škrijelj, pointed out that the project to build and equip the University Library of the University of Sarajevo, thanks to a grant from the Development Fund of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is the largest post-war investment in university infrastructure, with the implementation of which the University of Sarajevo will become the owner of the most beautiful library building in the Balkans which, apart from its undoubted social and cultural significance, will also be remembered as a symbolic feature of friendly relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

“The special goal of building the library is to revive the function of the existing libraries and centralize the existing library cities, which would contribute to the increase in the quality of education, data exchange, the rise of research activity and the like,” he pointed out.

He explained that the new library is being built with a grant from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through the Saudi Development Fund, on a land lot along Robert C. Frasure Street in accordance with the existing regulatory plan.

“The plan is to build the library in the next two years, and the value of the project is 20.8 million dollars,” he pointed out.

The signing ceremony was attended by domestic and international officials, representatives of the bodies of the University of Sarajevo, and other guests of the University of Sarajevo who contributed to the preparation and development of this largest post-war capital project at the University of Sarajevo, Fena reports.
