Drivers in some parts of Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Tuzla, Zenica, Visoko and Prijedor blocked traffic yesterday around 5 p.m. in a protest of high fuel prices.
The traffic was blocked on the main road M17, as well as at the exit from Sarajevo and the crossroad in Mostar.
Calls for blocking the traffic were sent via social networks, and citizens were called to block roads.
The drivers honked their sirens, and a total of 30 cars, including taxi drivers, were stopped at the intersection near SCC in Sarajevo. The blockade lasted for 45 minutes.
It is interesting to note that driver’s opinions were divided. While some of them blocked the intersection in Tuzla, others tried to get through the blockade and reach their destination in any way possible.
The traffic was also blocked on the roundabout on Laus in Banja Luka, and in the center of Zenica near Hotel Dubrovnik and near Bilino Polje Stadium.
The idea for this kind of protest came from a photo that circulated on social networks, and in its description was stated that it shows a blockade of traffic in Germany due to an increase in fuel prices. That was a false information.
