Uborak Landfill Near Mostar Engulfed by Fire; Situation Critical

A fire broke out at the Mostar landfill Uborak around 9 am this morning, and according to the latest information from the Mostar Professional Fire Department, the situation on the ground is critical.

“The report was received at 9.15 am, after which fifteen to six or seven vehicles went to the field. The situation is critical, and the fire has also engulfed an excavator,” the Mostar Fire Department told Fena.

Air-tractors are providing aerial firefighting assistance.

Due to the fire at the Mostar municipal waste landfill in Uborak, which has been burning since 9 am this morning, the Civil Protection and Fire Department of the City of Mostar has issued a warning to the local population.

Citizens are advised to avoid staying outdoors in the immediate vicinity of the affected area, to keep windows and doors closed, and to follow information published by the competent institutions.

The Civil Protection Department states that ground and air firefighting forces are engaged in extinguishing the fire.

The public is urged to be careful and follow official notices, noting that citizens will be informed in a timely manner about any possible worsening of the situation through official channels.

The Ministry is monitoring the situation after the fire in Ubork, Pozder requested an immediate field inspection

In connection with the fire at the Uborak landfill near Mostar, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism immediately requested increased inspection supervision and continuous monitoring of the situation on the ground in order to determine possible consequences for the environment and the health of the population.

Federal Minister of Environment and Tourism Nasiha Pozder is in constant contact with competent institutions and services that participate in extinguishing the fire and cleaning up the consequences of this incident.

The Ministry states that it is a serious fire according to initial information, and they hope that it will not cause serious consequences.

“The ministry will continue to monitor the development of the situation and inform the public about all relevant information in a timely manner. At the same time, we expect the competent entities to implement the obligations that have been neglected for years without further delay, in order to prevent new incidents and finally start the process of permanently solving the problem of the Uborak landfill”, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism reported, as reported by the FBiH Government Office for Public Relations.
