UNDelegation of the Ministry of Security of BiH successfully launched the visit to New York and meetings with officials of the United Nations (UN), at which it was discussed about the future participation of police officers from BiH in peacekeeping mission, stated this Ministry.

During separate meetings of the head of BiH delegation Dragan Mektić with the Under-Secretary General of UN for Peacekeeping Operations Hervé Ladsous and Assistant Secretary-General for Rule of Law and Security Institutions Dimitri Titov, the expansion of the peacekeeping mission of BiH, i.e. the increase in the number of police officers in the UN missions throughout the world, was agreed.

Such a decision was reached on the basis of the former expressed professionalism in the work of BiH missionaries, which was also confirmed by the first assistants to the Secretary General of the UN Ban Ki-moon who exceptionally affirmatively highlighted the role and contribution of the BiH contingents in the keeping of peace and the training of local police.

Interest of police officers from all agencies in BiH in participating in these operations is substantial. Those are police officers who have already completed the respectable and UN-accredited training at the Peace Support Operations Training Centre (PSOTC) in Butmir.

Meetings of the delegation of the Ministry of Security of BiH were held within the Summit of Heads of Police, held in New York and organized by the United Nations. At the summit which is to be opened today by the Secretary General of UN Ban Ki-moon it will be talked about the current situation in peacekeeping missions and the future role of the UN police forces, as well as about the greatest challenges and threats in the world, it was stated.
