moneyThe last analysis of socio-economic indicators in municipalities in the FBiH for the year of 2015, performed by the Federal Institute for Development Programming, shows all the disproportion of salaries in the municipalities of the FBiH.

Although it was always known that workers have been better paid in Canton Sarajevo compared to other cantons of the FBiH, the fact that the average salary of employees that are working in the Municipality of Centar in Sarajevo amounts to 1,234 BAM, while on the other hand, it amounts to 534 BAM in the Municipality of Gracanica in Tuzla.

Interesting fact is that just behind the Municipality Centre is the Municipality Ravno in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, where the average net salary amounts to 1,126 BAM. The trend are following the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo (1,087 BAM) and Stari Grad (1,000 BAM) from Sarajevo.

According to the analysis of the Federal Institute for Development Programming, highest salaries are in the Canton Sarajevo and they amount to 1.024 BAM in average. This data is not surprising given the fact that Sarajevo is the capital of BiH and contains all the state institutions.

Behind the Sarajevo Canton is the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (890 BAM), Canton 10 (839 BAM), Una-Sana Canton (808 BAM), West Herzegovina Canton (759 BAM), Bosnian-Podrinje Canton Gorazde (740 BAM) and Tuzla Canton (733 BAM). The lowest salaries are in the Zenica-Doboj Canton (718 BAM), Posavina Canton (711 BAM) and the Central Bosnia Canton (673 BAM).

It is particularly worrying that in numerous municipalities in the FBiH average net salary amounts to slightly more than 550 BAM, such as the Municipality of Domaljevac-Samac, where the average net salary amounts to 575 BAM.

On the other hand, according to the Agency for Statistics of BiH in 2011, the average monthly consumption expenditures amount to 1,569.33 BAM per household.

On average, single household spends 511.60 BAM on food and drinks, while the expenditures on non-food products and services amount to 1,057.73 BAM.

Thus, one third of the total household expenditures goes to food and drink, then 23.9 % on maintenance of apartment unit and utility costs, 14.6 % on transport and communications, 4.9 % on furniture, household appliances and regular maintenance, 4.7 % on clothing and footwear, 3.6 % on health and the remaining 15.7 % on other goods and services (tobacco, recreation and culture, education, catering services, hotel accommodation, etc.).

If we sum up the basic monthly household expenditures (food, bills, health, transport and education) we can see that almost three quarters (71.9 %) of expenditures are basic monthly expenditures that cannot be avoided and they amount to 1129.61 BAM for an average household in BiH.

Average monthly net salary in the FBiH in March of 2016 amounted to 845 BAM.
