While Politicians are arguing, Citizens of BiH are starving

There are almost no products on the shelves in the markets that have not risen in price in the last two months. The prices of some items do not increase only by 0.05 or 0.10 BAM, but significantly – by one, two, three, or more BAM.

Citizens can no longer bear the constant blow to their pockets. For example, basic foodstuffs – oil, flour, eggs, chicken, and similar products have become drastically more expensive. Oil now costs as much as 3.30 BAM, and a bag of flour, whose cost was 16 BAM a month ago, is now 20 BAM.

The situation is getting worse

Chicken is at the same price level as veal, a kilo of dried meat in Sarajevo in some places costs as much as 33 BAM, and in Zenica, for example, it is 25 BAM. In some Sarajevo stores, a kilo of beef leg costs 16.95 BAM, and it was 12.95 BAM. The situation is getting worse, prices are constantly rising. Citizens mostly buy only what is necessary…

Even products that now have promotional prices are moreexpensive than before.

Nedzad Bico, president of the Farmers’ Association of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), pointed out that farmers have been selling products at the same purchase price for years, but that the prices of these products are constantly growing in sales. The price of potatoes already ranges from 1.50 to 2.50 BAM, and last year it could be purchased for 80-90 pfennigs per kilogram. The main reason is drought because production is reduced somewhere up to 70 percent.

”The purchase of a liter of milk from the producer is from 50 to 60 pfennigs, and it is the same with meat and grain. The state should provide answers to the questions of what is happening on the market. Primary agricultural producers are grappling with problems, ” Bico told.

Companies are shutting down

Also, he mentioned that all raw materials that go into production, as well as their transport, have become more expensive and that this endangers farmers and threatens to shut down farms.

”This winter will show what the state has done on that issue, and we know that it has not done anything. This year’s drought has affected everyone, there will not be enough fodder for the farms to survive. There are not enough funds to be able to sow new areas, and what is sown will be of very questionable quality, ” said Bico.

Sowing is 100 percent more expensive

According to Bico, the sowing of wheat last year amounted to 1.020 BAM per hectare, not counting fuel, but only seeds, fertilizers, and protection. This year, it costs 2.200 BAM.

”When you add to that fuel that is more expensive every day and labor that no one even counts on, you see what we have come to. It will not be good for us, and the prices in the markets show that. The price of a bag of flour of 25 kilograms could be 30 and more BAM, ” told Bico.
