Woman from the famous Photograph from occupied Sarajevo, has passed away

Sanda Skrabic–Condra, the woman from the famous photograph of Roger M. Richards from occupied Sarajevo, died at the age of 56.

The photo is called “Woman Running from Sniper” (“Zena koja bjezi od snajpera“), and was created in 1993. Sanda then became a symbol of resistance and defiance.

She also appears in the film “Sarajevo Roses”, which was also directed by Roger M. Richards. It shows the stories of people from Sarajevo who spent the war here. Besides Sanda, Vedran Smailovic, known in the world as the “The cellist of Sarajevo”, spoke about the horrors of war, and Asim Haracic, Armin Oprasic, and Sanela Tasic also appeared.

Richards said earlier in an interview that he wanted to tell the story of Sarajevo, and he decided that film was the best way to do it, because the photos are static and only tell the story of a moment.

“Photos only suggest something, they can be mysterious. In the photos, you can’t see what happened before that moment, film is the best way to tell the story,” he told, Klix.ba writes.
