World Bank ensured 105 million USD (55 million for the FBiH, 50 million for Republika Srpska) for the project of modernization of roads in BiH for the next 4 years, in the context of the new strategy that provides up to 750 million USD of help for our country.
Around 50 million USD of that amount is intended for improvement of the BiH health care sector and health services.
“It is important to mention that the planned budget support represent only part of the overall program of the World Bank in BiH. Therefore, we are preparing a number of investment projects for the support of the restructuring of the health sector for a better and more cost-effective delivery of health services, for improvement of the road infrastructure, the promotion of employment in the private sector, especially young people, as well as improvement of business environment and the financial sector,” said Tatjana Proskurjakova, head of the World Bank Office in BiH.
She explained that all these projects are prepared as part of the recently adopted Framework partnership with BiH, whose aim is to increase public sector efficiency, stimulate growth and potential for opening of the new work places in the private sector and the construction of resistance of BiH to natural disasters, such as floods and droughts.
Proskurjakova recalled that the World Bank is working closely with the Council of Ministers of BiH and entity governments regarding vitalization of the budget.
“This program provides support for policy reforms aimed at strengthening public finances and the improvement of structural reforms in the areas of labor, pension, bankruptcy legislation, debt management and health care reform. Supported reforms will help with ensuring fiscal stability in the medium term,” she said, noting that the progress regarding the fulfillment of most of the agreed activities has been recorded so far. “One of the remaining reforms is related to introduction of procedures for reducing the high prices of drugs in BiH,” announced the head of the World Bank in BiH.
The rest of the planned 750 million USD will be allocated in a way that for the management of fiscal resources for growth (DPL) will be allocated 70 million USD, for the project business environment (RBL) 60 million USD, for the program of support to employment in BiH (IPF) 50 million USD, and for management of fiscal resources for growth 2 (DPL) 70 million USD. The rest 345 million USD is intended for the reform of state-owned companies (DPL), management of fiscal resources for growth 3, support for small and medium enterprises, risk management of natural disasters / flood protection (IPF) and the stability of the financial sector ( RBL).
