Exhibition Tunnel of Hope 9Monumental complex Tunnel D-B was visited by around 42,000 visitors in the first 5 months of this year, as confirmed by the Head of the Department for organizing the manifestations in the Fund Memorial, Hamdija Hasanovic.

“Of this number, about 34,301 visitors paid the ticket, and the rest of them were schoolchildren who visited the tunnel on the occasion of the Open Days. Most of the schoolchildren were from the area of Canton Sarajevo, but there were also schoolchildren from other cantons in FBiH,” said Hasanovic.

“We are very pleased with the visit and visitors of the Tunnel are mostly foreigners. Foreign tourists are coming from all over the world. They are mostly tourists from Turkey, Arab countries, Croatia, Slovenia, Japan, China and South Africa,” said employee of Memorial Fund, Edis Kolar.

“This year we had schoolchildren from schools from other cantons in the FBiH. For schoolchildren is provided free entry, historic hour about the tunnel and war, and lecture about unexploded explosives,” said Kolar.

He reminded that the tunnel was renovated in January and the new permanent exhibition was introduced then, which was actually enriched with new objects and exhibits from that period, and authentic video materials, which are an integral part of the permanent exhibition, were made during the period of the siege on the authentic location of the object DB.

“We renovated 25 meters, which is in function and that visitors can pass through. In setting were included some elements such as original documents related to digging of tunnel, which we managed to collect during the winter. We also included new authentic recordings from that time, or recordings which were created in the tunnel,” said Kolar.

He emphasized that “room for survival – or the living room was made in January, and visitors can see what looked like a room for living in Sarajevo and what it was necessary.”

During the summer time, the tunnel is opened every day from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.
