Bakalar: There are no constitutional or legal Obstacles for holding the Elections

The President of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Zeljko Bakalar, said that there were no constitutional and legal obstacles to the organization of general elections and the implementation of election results after October 2022.

This precise statement comes after the interview of HDZ leader Dragan Covic for HRT, where, among other things, he noted that there are no formal-legal conditions for organizing elections.

“Legally, the current situation cannot be compared to the impossibility of holding elections in Mostar. Constitutional and legal discrimination remains and that is an obstacle to theEuropean path of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH),” Bakalar told.

Bakalar also posted on his Twitter the parts of the law that talk about the organization and conduct of elections in BiH.

High Representative Christian Schmidt said elections would be held in October, regardless of the outcome of negotiations on changes to the Election Law.

It is an open secret that there is a plan of the parties gathered around the HDZ to boycott the elections in 2022 if there is no reform of the election legislation that they would be satisfied with at least partly.

Despite the fact that no money has yet been provided for the general elections, the Central Election Commission of BiH(CECBiH) has begun preparations. Several activities have been performed, and a public call for the procurement of election material will be published soon,as it was confirmed.

According to previously established regulations, general elections in BiH should be held in October 2022, but BiH authorities have not yet fulfilled their legal obligation to provide funds.
