13090647_1165015303549424_1896519087_oBiH has not yet signed an important agreement on operational support and cooperation of BiH security agencies with EUROPOL, but this might happen during the next month, confirmed the Minister of Security of BiH Dragan Mektić.

BiH reached an agreement with EUROPOL last year, but due to different administrational obstacles the official signing of the agreement has been delayed. After the Ministry of Security of BiH forwarded the agreement to the Presidency of BiH for approval, in the meantime an opinion of heads of ministries of internal affairs of all ten cantons on the agreement was requested, in accordance with the coordination mechanism.

The agreement was then forwarded to the Presidency again for final approval.

“BiH did its part of the job, the Presidency approved the signing, and we notified EUROPOL about that. Now we are waiting for a call from the headquarters in Hague to finally sign the agreement,” Mektić said.

Mektić added that this will most likely happen in the next month, after which the agreement will be ratified. The importance of this agreement for BiH is best confirmed by the interest shown by the European Commission, which rushed the harmonization of the agreement prior to the very signing.

The signing of this agreement includes operational and technical cooperation with the EUROPOL headquarters, and BiH can also be a part of EUROPOL’s investigative teams when it comes to fight against terrorism.

Mektić briefly commented on the upcoming activities of security services in BiH regarding the issue of parajemaats which did not join the Islamic Community in BiH.

“In the coming period, we will talk to the representatives of the Islamic Community with the aim of gathering concrete information. We did not want to interfere earlier, and that is why we have waited for the official attitude of the Islamic Community. After we gather and process all data about parajemaats which did not join the Islamic Community, we will reach a decision on further activities,” Mektić said.
