The Chairman of the BiH Council of Miniester Vjekoslav Bevanda signed in Sarajevo today a statement of support to the global COMMIT campaign, whose goal is to prevent violence against women and girls.

UN Women launched the 2012 campaign with the support of the UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon.

In a brief statement to the media after the signing, Bevanda said that this obligates BiH to implement the European Council Convention in Preventing Violence Against Women and Girls in Families, and that the Resolution by the UN Security Council 1325 would be implemented through an Action Plan.

“In the last period, BiH has made efforts to combat violence against women and girls. However, despite the progress made, it is important and necessary to continue to lend support in preventing violence through laws and other regulations, and also through education’’, said Bevanda.

He proposed women who have suffered violence not to accept it, and that any form of force and abuse should immediately be reported to the relevant authorities.

‘’I call on men to refrain from proving their superiority with violence, and to contribute in preventing violence against women. A real man is one who is able to control his emotions and to act responsibly’’, concluded Bevanda.
