Controls on Border Crossings raised to a higher Level

sarovic-696x456Control and monitoring on BiH border crossings have been raised to a higher level and all meat that is imported in the country is controlled on daily basis on all border crossings, stated the Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Mirko Šarović while commenting on the affair with infected chicken and beef in the neighboring Croatia and everyday information that product in that country are infected with salmonella or Escherichia coli.

Perutnina Ptuj is among the last companies in whose products the deficiencies were found. However, according to Šarović there is no cause for concern because Perutnina Ptuj has its own production in BiH and does not import meat.

“Therefore, this doubt does not refer to our company, but only those branches that operate in Slovenia and Croatia,” Šarović explained.

Šarović added that the essence is in stricter control of state borders, but that controls in internal market, in production plants and retail facilities should be conducted by entity inspection bodies.

“I think this situation pushes us to make the controls stricter in order to adequately protect the health of our citizens and to raise the quality of food on a higher level. To a long run, we in BiH must continue the process of adoption of the highest standards when it comes to food of both animal and vegetable origin,” said Šarović.

Šarović added that it would be useful if the Veterinary Office of BiH urged the entity inspection bodies to increase the level of their control as well.
