A delegation from the City of Vienna, led by Deputy Mayor Barbara Novak, visited Sarajevo.

During a series of meetings with representatives of the Sarajevo Canton and the City of Sarajevo, they discussed improving institutional cooperation, investments, innovations and modernization of public administration.

As announced by the Office of the City of Vienna in Sarajevo, the focus of the discussions with the Canton representatives was on the application of digital procedures and artificial intelligence (AI) with the aim of more efficient budget management, more precise planning of public spending and stronger control of public spending.

Experiences in creating and implementing investment policy, as well as models of budget consolidation and strategic prioritization, especially in crisis circumstances, were also exchanged.

A reception was held for the Viennese delegation at the City Hall. The Mayor of Sarajevo, Samir Avdić (NiP), together with Deputy Mayor Predrag Puharić (SDP) and the Chairman of the City Council, Alen Girt (NS), hosted a multi-member delegation from the City of Vienna.

A special symbolism of this visit is that it was realized at a time when the 130th anniversary of the City Hall is being celebrated, whose history is closely connected to Vienna.

The reception took place, as announced by the City of Vienna, in the spirit of strengthening partnership relations between the two capitals, with a clear focus on specific projects in the areas of digitalization, IT security, environmental protection, support for applying for European Union funds, connecting universities and the application of smart technologies.

Mayor Avdić thanked Vienna for its long-standing support to Sarajevo, especially recalling Vienna’s significant assistance in the renovation of the City Hall and the implementation of development projects.

A day earlier, a roundtable discussion entitled “Health Economy Without Borders” was held, dedicated to healthcare, at which it was emphasized that Sarajevo is increasingly positioning itself as a regional center capable of attracting, retaining and developing investments, especially in the areas of healthcare, innovation and new technologies.

Novak recalled that Vienna has a strongly networked startup ecosystem in the areas of medical technology and the life sciences sector and expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with Sarajevo. She emphasized that Vienna wants to further improve opportunities for Sarajevo startup companies and create sustainable jobs through joint projects.

She expressed the readiness of the City of Vienna to actively support Sarajevo, through the transfer of knowledge, experiences and good practices, the Office of the City of Vienna in Sarajevo announced.
