Israeli Strike kills a Hezbollah Top Commander in Lebanon

Israel killed Wissam al-Tawil, the top commander of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, in an airstrike in southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah announced today that its top commander has been killed, and this is the first time in three months of conflict that a Hezbollah commander has been killed. Al-Tawil, known as Jawad, was the deputy head of the Radwan elite force unit.

Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that the attack was carried out by a drone at 10:15 a.m. local time on the road to the town of Khirbet Selm, located in the Bint Jbeil district. Besides al-Tawil, one other person was killed. Israel has not yet commented on this attack.

Now there are even more fears of an additional flare-up of the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel. Those fears emerged after last week’s killing of a senior official of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, Saleh al-Arouri.

The murder happened near Beirut, and it is suspected that it was committed by Israel.

Israeli authorities believe that al-Tawil is responsible for Hezbollah’s rocket attack on Israel’s Meron air base, reports Al Jazeera.
