Minister of Internal Affairs Admir Katica and Police Commissioner Fatmir Hajdarevic held a meeting yesterday with the director of the Center for the Education of Judges and Prosecutors, Arben Murtezic, regarding the organization of a round table on the topic of standardizing the practice of confiscating vehicles.

At the end of April this year, at a meeting with director Murtezic, Minister Katica initiated the organization of a round table that would bring together representatives of all parties of interest in the procedures for confiscating vehicles for multiplerepeat offenders for committing traffic violations. At yesterday’s meeting, it was agreed that the round table will be held at the beginning of September this year and that it will bring together representatives of the Police Administration, the misdemeanor departments of the Municipal and Cantonal Court, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the Federal Ministry of Transport and Communications as well as the Federal Ministry of Justice.

Commissioner Hajdarevic emphasized the important role of police officers in the process of confiscation of vehicles, in which the policeman represents the “prosecutor”, and demands from the court the confiscation of the vehicle if he deems it necessary.

An important role in this process will also be played by Semir Sut, the coordinator for the implementation of the Guidelines for improving the traffic safety situation in the area of Canton Sarajevo (CS), as a long-time expert in the field of traffic safety and a former commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Zenica-Doboj Canton (ZDC).

Also, the agenda of this round table will include the ordinance on deprivation of liberty, as well as the ordinance on work for the common good at liberty, which currently don’t exist at the Federation of BiH (FBiH) level, and together with other by-laws represent an important segment in the process of ensuring traffic safety on the area of CS, but also the entire FBiH.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Katica emphasized that at this round table, he will insist on concrete conclusions that will determine the way to harmonize the actions of the institutions and establish a uniform practice in the procedures for confiscating the vehicles of multiple repeat offenders who have committed violations.
