Civil NATO Exercise “Bosnia and Herzegovina 2017”, which includes 1,300 participants from 34 countries, continued with strong intensity. Several exercises were conducted yesterday in Canton Tuzla, and participants showed their knowledge and skills in the field of acting and rescuing in emergency situations.

Simulations of floods and stronger earthquakes, the collapse of buildings and traffic accidents on land and in water were conducted at locations in Tuzla and Lukavac.

The first exercise at the location of Lake Modrac in Lukavac showed a car accident together with a chemical incident and an accident on the cable car.

In this exercise participated rescue teams from Belarus, Ukraine, Montenegro, Serbia, Spain, and Croatia.

“No one can be as strong as 34 countries together. In case that a country needs help, everyone else should show solidarity and provide assistance,” said the Commander of Croatian Team for Rescue in Water, Tomislav Marevic.

He also believes that this exercise will further strengthen cooperation between BiH and Croatia in case of possible natural disasters.

On the other hand, the exercise of urban search and rescue took place in Tuzla, more precisely at the location of the former Guming.

This exercise brought the earthquake scenario, and rescue teams from Belarus, Ukraine, BiH and Montenegro extracted injured citizens from disrupted facilities in a coordinated action who, after receiving medical treatment at the accident site, were moved to local medical institutions in special vehicles.

To recall, NATO Civilian Exercise “Bosnia and Herzegovina 2017” is the 17th exercise organized by the Euro-Atlantic Center for Coordination of Disaster Response and the first of its kind organized in BiH.
