At yesterday’s session, the Assembly of the Canton Sarajevo (CS) adopted the Proposal of Decisions on the Awarding of Public Recognitions of the CS, which verified the decisions of the Committee for Public Recognitions of the CS. Among them is the one on declaring Dr. Nevenka Tromp an honorary citizen of the CS.

Dr. Tromp will be awarded the Charter of the CS, the greatest public recognition of the CS, Klix.ba writes.

The decision to declare Dr. Tromp an honorary citizen was made because of her outstanding contribution to the investigation and documentation of war crimes committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), collecting and preserving evidence, and advocating for spreading and respecting the truth about events in BiH.

The explanation of the decision states that Dr. Tromp’s engagement, commitment, and collection of historical documentation have made an immeasurable contribution to preserving the truth about the war in our country, establishing a historical narrative, and shaping the collective memory.

From 2000 to 2012, Dr. Tromp worked at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague, as part of the Prosecution’s research team on political and military leadership.

She worked on historical and political topics in the case of Slobodan Milosevic from 2000 until his death in March 2006. After his death and given the fact that the trial ended without a verdict, Dr. Trump decided to use the extensive archives left behind by this unfinished trial and reconstruct the historical narrative of Slobodan Milosevic’s and Serbia’s role in the breakup of Yugoslavia and the wars that followed based on evidence, witness statements, audio, and video recordings.

She is the author of the book ”Prosecuting Slobodan Milosevic – The Unfinished Trial”.

Dr. Tromp is a professor at the University of Amsterdam and an expert in the field of transitional and post-transitional justice. She is known for her very brave and open appearances in public.

Recognition of the CS Assembly will be presented at the ceremonial session planned for May 6th, which will be held as part of the CS Day.
