Although the deadline for completion has been exceeded due to desire to meet all standards, after -numerous problems the works are nearing completion.

“Final works on the putting into function the asylum for abandoned animals are in progress. The opening is expected in approximately 40 days,” said the City Administration Zenica.

Total value of the project is around 345.000 BAM, and the space covers 26.000 square meters. In addition to that, an administration building covering 144 square meters where workers will be staying and where surgeries and veterinary processing of animals will be executed.

“After obtaining the occupancy permit, equipping of the space will begin, i.e. the fitting of specific equipment for the needs of animals, followed by the selection and training of staff and engagement of vets, and other organizational activities,” stated the City Administration.

Currently in progress are talks between the association “Šapa” and the utility enterprise “Alba”, with the aim of helping the activists of the association in everyday activities such as catching and accommodating dogs, providing food, etc.

Citizens of Zenica support the opening of one such facility.

Although the construction of two pavilions has been planned, only one pavilion was built in the first stage. Its capacity allows the accommodation of up to 70 stray dogs, while the outdoor cages will have the capacity to accommodate a much larger number of dogs whom the interested people will have the opportunity to adopt. In addition, a dog walking track will be built as well.
