The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina found Radovan Veljović guilty of committing rape in May 1992 in the Foča area as part of a widespread and systematic attack and sentenced him to seven years in prison.

On 18 November, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina delivered and pronounced a Trial Judgment in the case of Radovan Veljović, finding the accused Radovan Veljović guilty of the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity under the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and sentenced him to seven (7) years of imprisonment.

The accused was found guilty that between early April 1992 and late July 1992, in the framework of a widespread and systematic attack launched by military, paramilitary and police forces of the “Serb Republic of BiH”, subsequently Republika Srpska, which targeted the Bosniak civilian population of the Foča municipality, knowing of the attack and that his acts formed a part thereof, as a member of those forces he committed an act of rape by using threat and force.

The court panel partially accepted the injured party’s request for compensation for the psychological pain she suffered and ordered Veljović to pay her 32,000 KM after the verdict becomes final.

The prohibiting measures against the accused from leaving BiH have been extended. The verdict is subject to an appeal, Detektor.ba reports.
