Melisa Pilipovic was born in Velika Kladusa. She was just two years old when she came to the United States as a refugee. Her parents Zejna and Suljo worked hard from the very beginning in order to have a normal life and secure a better future for Melisa.
They live in Virginia where they have started two private businesses, Foreign Valley Trucking and Forval Expres. Melisa inherited working habits from her parents and she was always good in accounting and everything money related.
She had opened savings account before kindergarten, and she learned to work in QuickBooks at the age of 13. Melissa graduated on Friday at the University of Mary Washington. She finished her studies in accounting. That was the wish of her parents for her, in order to build a better future in the United States.
“I am very grateful. This was an incredible experience and a dream come true for my parents, they came here and left everything they knew behind them, and the life they always wanted for me is just realizing,” said Melisa.
At the very beginning, family Pilipovic financed church in Waynesboro to become part of the community. Over time they found their way, learned the language and started their own business in Virginia. Now they are happy because their daughter is highly educated, and she got the job as the accountant in the prestigious company KPMG in Washington, which is working for the government.
“They told me that I am too old to be a student, but I had a much more positive view.I’m so happy now,” said Melisa.
Now I’ve fulfilled the American dream my parents always wanted for me,” she concluded.
