telecommunicationMinisters responsible for telecommunications from Serbia, BiH, Montenegro, and Macedonia reached an agreement on sending a letter of request to the European Commission on extending the decision on the abolition of roaming in EU countries to these four countries.

The letter of request will be signed by Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications of Serbia, Rasim Ljajic, Minister of Communications and Transport of BiH, Ismir Jusko, Minister of Economy of Montenegro, Dragica Sekulic, and Minister of Information Society and Administration of Macedonia, Damjan Mancevski.

“Considering the fact that the EU needed 10 years for harmonization of the abolition of roaming services, we are aware that the realization of this will not be simple, fast or easy,” said Ljajic.

“We should not have too high expectations now, but we believe that, as the countries in the process of accession to the EU, our citizens should have the same benefits as the citizens of the EU. After all, this decision also applies to non-member countries of the EU such as Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein,” noted Ljajic.

He recalled that Serbia, BiH, Montenegro, and Macedonia signed an agreement on the mutual decrease of roaming prices three years ago, and thanks to that agreement, the prices of roaming services in the region are gradually decreasing over the last three years.
