Sarajevo among cheapest cities in Europe

sarajevo_mon_amour_by_edamak-d33k0wvNow in its third full year, the European Backpacker Index has been totally updated for 2013, and quite a few rankings have shifted in spite of generally stable prices within Europe in recent years. With the entire region in or near recession, many hostels and budget hotels have actually gotten a bit cheaper since the 2012 list.

The cheapest group of cities are bunched together in price, and almost all of them are bunched together geographically in southeastern Europe as well. Krakow continues to feel like the best travel bargain on the Continent, as a charming city where prices almost seem too low, but if you head south you’ll find things to be even a bit cheaper, with longer fair-weather seasons to go along with them.

Among 47 cheapest cities of Europe Sarajevo is the 4th cheapest, and web portal Price of Travel states that Sarajevo’s location deep into the mountains is remote, but it’s also gorgeous once you arrive. The Old Town next to the modern centre is very interesting and incredibly welcoming.  According to them daily backpacker index of Sarajevo is 19.56 EUR or 25.74 USD per day.
