SDA: Schmidt’s Comparison of Alija Izetbegovic and Ratko Mladic is scandalous

The SDA reacted to the statement of the high representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, where he equated Alija Izetbegović with the convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić.

The SDA said that this statement, where Schmidt said that putting photos of Mladić and Izetbegović in textbooks, was “scandalous.”

“It is inadmissible to mention these two names in the same sentence and equate them in any context,” SDA said.

As they pointed out, Mladić is “a war criminal legally sentenced to life imprisonment” in The Hague, for “genocide, crimes against humanity and other serious forms of war crimes”, and that he “will be remembered forever.”

“On the other hand, Alija Izetbegović was the chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a country that defended itself against aggression, the supreme commander of its honorable army and a leader who, even in the most difficult times of war, insisted on respecting international conventions, protecting the civilian population, human rights and democratic values “, they announced.

They stated that “Schmidt knows all this,” and that his statement was “particularly offensive.”

“After the suspension of the Constitution and the exclusion of the Bosniak vice-president of FBiH from the process of forming the government, Bosniaks and Bosnian patriots are now trying to take away what is most sacred to them – honor and face – by comparing their great men with war criminals,” the SDA said.
