The Capital of BiH is the third most polluted City in the World

This morning, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the third most polluted city in the world, just behind New Delhi and Lahore.

Residents of Sarajevo are used to, during the winter months, that the city holds an infamously high position on the scale of the world’s most polluted cities. With the arrival of cold weather, the air in November, December and January can be labeled as “very unhealthy”, which is also the case this morning.
That is why a warning has been issued that should be taken into account when the air quality is rated as the worst.

“In people with respiratory diseases such as asthma, significant intensification of the symptoms and intensity of the disease is possible. Increased probability of negative consequences for the respiratory organs of the entire population! Patients with lung diseases and heart diseases, pregnant women, children and the elderly must avoid any activities during their stay outside. And everyone else should avoid prolonged or greater stress during their stay outside,” warns Eco Action.

In Sarajevo, the most polluted areas are near the measuring stations near the US Embassy and Otoka, while the air quality is marked as “Unhealthy” near Vijećnica, Bjelava and Ilidža.

It is common knowledge that poor air quality, which is why previous warnings were issued, affects people’s health. Air pollution represents the concentration of harmful substances beyond the tolerance limit, which directly damages and worsens human health, while its indirect effect manifests itself through a harmful effect on domestic animals and vegetation, Klix.ba reports.
