The Prosecutor’s Office of the Sarajevo Canton has sent a proposal to the Sarajevo Municipal Court to order custody for 17 traffic police officers of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of the Interior, arrested in the “Gift 1” operation for corruption.

Police officers arrested in the “DAR 1” operation were handed over to the Sarajevo Canton (SC) Prosecutor’s Office last night. They were suspected of having committed more than a hundred felonies including bribery or other forms of benefit, and abuse of position or authority, Klix.ba news portal reports.

In the operation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of SC, 17 police officers were arrested, and this operation was characterized as the biggest incident in the police ranks in the post-war period of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

The arrested police officers are: Damir Bihorac, Emrah Hasanspahic, Midhat Muslic, Nizamir Djulovic, Alen Delic, Gojko Pecenica, Amel Bulbul, Radenko Palangetic, Aleksandar Djurica, Alen Kozic, Miran Golijanin, Hajrudin Calija, Sead Dramalija, Elvir Sipovic, Mensur Skenderovic, Nedim Gljiva, and Alem Ibisevic.

As it turns out, Damir Bihorac was also the subject of earlier investigations by the Sarajevo police for the same corruption acts. Among arrested people, there are also members of close families of senior police officers.

During yesterday’s morning searches and arrests, some of the 17 arrested also tried to hide the money suspected of being obtained through illegal acts, ie those acts for which they are charged.

After being examined by the acting prosecutor within the legal deadline, it is expected that custody or prohibitive measures will be proposed for the arrested, which will be decided by the court.
