BiH to Request the Extradition of Former Commander Sakib Mahmuljin

In the coming period, the Ministry of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina will send an urgent request to Turkey to act on the request of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina regarding the extradition of the former commander of the Third Corps of the RBiH Army Sakib Mahmuljin, convicted of war crimes, said the Minister of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina Davor Bunoza.

Bunoza, responding to the MP’s question of Milorad Kojić (SNSD) – when Sakib Mahmuljin will be extradited to Bosnia and Herzegovina, said that this question should be asked of the Turkish judiciary.

“Regarding MP Kojić’s question, I give you a concrete answer that there is no correct answer, given that the question should be asked to the competent institutions of Turkey. As is known, on February 28 of this year, the Ministry of Justice submitted a request to the Court of BiH for the extradition of the named person, and unfortunately, we have not yet received an answer,” Bunoza stated.

Kojić pointed out that it is necessary for the Ministry of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina to send an emergency as soon as possible, because this is primarily aimed at satisfying the needs of the victims and that the manner in which the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina acted in this case should be subject to a certain type of control by the Ministry of Justice and the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Office.

“We have a situation in this case where justice has been served in a small part by the sentencing, and justice has not been served in a significant part because the war criminal is not serving his sentence,” Kojić added.

At the end of April 2022, the Appellate Division of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina sentenced Mahmuljin to a single sentence of eight years in prison for crimes committed against Serbs in 1995 in Voža and Zavidovići.
