Border Police of B&H received Donation from IOM

granicnaThe three official vessels for border control as well as a donation of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) was handed over today to the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and this donation should help improve the work of the Border Police.

The vessels are donated within the IOM project “Capacity building and strengthening of cooperation between law enforcement agencies of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia and Serbia.”

Director of the BiH Border Police Zoran Galić said today that this donation will improve the capacity of the Border Police in control of “blue” borders and carrying out everyday tasks.

He underlined that the vessels would be immediately put into operation and deployed in the units of the Border Police in Višegrad, Bijeljina and Zvornik.

Sub-regional Coordinator for the Western Balkans of the IOM and Head of Mission to BiH Gianluca Rocco thinks that BiH has a key role in the region because it borders the state that is a member of the European Union, leading to possible concerns about the flow of migrants.

“I am happy about the attitude of the director of the Border Police who says he understands very well the role of this institution and the importance of regional cooperation,” said Rocco.

This project is funded by the IOM and the government of Switzerland will contribute to the improvement of cross-border cooperation between border patrols, although donating this equipment, says Rocco, will not solve all the problems related to the equipping and training of police in the region.

The donation is worth 107,000 euros, of which the BiH Border Police participated with 10 percent of its own funds.
