Is there any Benefit from the Meetings of the ruling Coalition at the State Level?

The ruling coalition at the state level assessed the meeting the day before yesterday in Istocno Sarajevo as a major step forward on the European path. Two European laws were agreed upon, laws on the court and money laundering prevention, which should be adopted by the state parliament by the end of the month. Some progress has also been achieved when it comes to the Electoral Law.

Despite the conclusion of the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska (NARS) that there will be no law at the state level until the Law on the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is adopted, two new laws are still in the works. SNSD leader Milorad Dodik, who two days ago reiterated that the Prosecutor’s Office and the Court of BiH are unconstitutional, agreed to the formation of the Appellate Division of the Court of BiH, as part of the amendment of the Law on Courts, as well as the Law on Prevention of Money Laundering.

“I think it is reasonable, very reasonable, that we act by separating these two laws so that they give confirmation first of all to the European Union (EU), in the belief that the EU will react positively and that they will start accession negotiations with BiH in the further movement towards EU membership”, says Milorad Dodik, president of SNSD.

For the opposition in the RS, Dodik’s disregard for the conclusions of the NARS is nothing new. They believe that two parallel processes are taking place on the political level.

“One is the blockage of the functioning of the government and the blockage of the parliamentary authority at the level of BiH. On the other hand, the process of trying to prove to international mentors, that is, the International Community, that a new story has opened here, that we now have a new situation in BiH, that roses are blooming,” emphasizes Mladen Bosic (SDS), a member of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH (PABiH).

For political analysts, the meeting from two days ago is another example that personal and party interests are one thing, and rhetoric aimed at voters is another, but that this too must soon come to an end.

“When it comes to their personal and party interests, they will agree on everything. And when it comes to the interests of citizens or businessmen, there is no agreement,” says Zeljko Raljic, a political analyst.

“In the next few months, by spring at the latest, we will definitely start resolving this whole situation. Are we going to go in a compromise direction or are we going in the direction of additional tightening of political conditions in BiH,” Velizar Antic pointed out, a political analyst.

The ruling coalition points out that two days ago the doors of the EU were strongly opened, which two days ago also announced a new investment package for the Western Balkans worth six billion euros. After this announcement, the reforms that Europe is asking us to implement are clearly not a problem.
