Two mine-detection dogs arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina from Cambodia on 3 February, the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) confirmed.
CMAC Director-General Heng Ratana said the dogs were deployed through Norwegian People’s Aid and will be used in mine clearance operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He noted that the transfer reflects Cambodia’s transition from being an importer to an exporter of trained mine-detection dogs.
Norwegian People’s Aid has been working with CMAC since 1992, providing long-term support for demining and explosive ordnance clearance efforts in Cambodia.
CMAC began using mine-detection dogs in the 1990s, initially relying on dogs from abroad, and launched its own domestic breeding and training program in 2002, Scandasia writes.
