It was with great sadness that we received the news that Vahidin Musemić, one of the greatest legends of Football club Sarajevo in its history, has left us, reported today from the Sarajevo Football Club.
Already at the age of 15, he became a member of the pioneers of FC Sarajevo. In the jersey, he played 182 official games and scored 84 goals, which makes him the fifth best scorer in the club’s history. He was a member of the champion generation that won the championship of Yugoslavia in the 66/67 season, also the first championship in the history of our club. In that season, he was the team’s top scorer with 16 goals. He easily scored goals in all possible ways and was considered one of the best goalscorers of his time, not only in Yugoslavia but also in all of Europe.
He played 17 games for the Yugoslav national team and scored 9 goals. At the European Championship in 1968, he led the attack of the national team that became the vice-champion of Europe. He spent the last two years of his playing career in France, in the Nice team, before ending his playing career earlier than planned due to injuries.
Along with his Sarajevo, he was also in the war days. During that period, he held the position of technical director of the club, and even after the war period, he was a member of the management bodies of FC Sarajevo.
Spencer from Koševo was an example of how he fights for the coat of arms on the jersey during his playing career, and how he treats his club after it ends. His love for FC Sarajevo grew every day, the passion when he talked about his club was visible in his eyes during every conversation.
Vahidin Musemić’s name will forever be written in golden letters in the history of our club and city.
